DTN COMMENTS:  A light trade has been reported in parts of the South at 
$244, $5 lower than last week's weighted averages. A few live deals are 
also being reported in parts of Nebraska. More business should need to 
take place at some point today, but it is possible that producers are not 
willing to accept the lower money that is on the table today.
 
Light business took place in the North yesterday with dressed deals 
marked at $382 to $384, mostly $383, $5 lower than last week's weighted 
averages. A very light trade was reported in parts of the South with live 
trade taking place at $243 to $245.

Today's slaughter totaled 86,000 head, 3,000 less than last week, and 
21,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 3,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 516,000 head, even with the prior week, but 
down 53,000 from 2024. Live cattle futures closed sharply lower, off 200 
to 467, and feeder issued ended the day sharply to significantly lower, 
off 622 to 810. Beef cutouts are expected to close higher with light to 
moderate box movement.
