DTN COMMENTS: The country is slow to start this morning, following
yesterday's light to moderate Southern live trade at $115 to $116.50, mostly
$116, $1 higher than last week's weighed averages. A light dressed trade was
also reported in parts of the North at $180 to $184, mostly $184, $2 higher
than last week's weighed average basis, Nebraska. (Note that the majority of
the $184 in Nebraska was done by one major). Having said that we will need
to see more trade in the North at some point today and/or tomorrow. Asking
prices for cattle left on showlists are around $117 to $118 in the South,
and $185 to $188 in the North. Beef cutouts are expected to be lower, with
light to moderate box movement.
